LUMEM Project

We are very proud to announce that Viromii is participating in the LUMEM project, funded by IVACE+i, the Generalitat Valenciana and the European Union through the FEDER Comunitat Valenciana 2021–2027 Programme.

LUMEM: Detection, prediction and quaternary treatment of wastewater through new combined membrane, adsorption and photocatalysis technologies to improve the quality of reclaimed water and move towards more efficient and circular management of water resources.

  • Objectives: The main objective of the project is to assess the effectiveness of an innovative, compact and portable quaternary system that integrates membrane filtration, adsorption and photocatalysis to remove emerging contaminants from urban and industrial wastewater, including PFAS, microplastics and pharmaceuticals such as diclofenac and clarithromycin. In addition, the project will develop an Artificial Intelligence (AI)-based monitoring and prediction system to detect these contaminants and optimise their removal in real time.
  • Description: LUMEM was created in response to the new regulatory requirements arising from the new European Directive on urban wastewater treatment, which introduces the need to apply quaternary treatment for the removal of micropollutants. Rather than applying solutions in isolation, LUMEM proposes the synergistic integration of advanced technologies, membranes, adsorption and photocatalysis, in a single system, with the aim of generating technical and scientific knowledge applicable as quaternary treatment in wastewater treatment plants and contributing to the circular economy, technological innovation and the sustainability of the sector.
  • Project partners: Viromii | Sociedad de Agricultores de la Vega (SAV) | Instituto de Ciencia Molecular (ICMOL, Universitat de València) | Amphora Process | AIMPLAS.
