The growing demand for connected solutions in health, wellbeing and sport is increasing the need for wearable systems capable of monitoring physical and biological parameters in a comfortable and non-invasive way. However, many current devices remain rigid, external or poorly integrated into garments, which can limit usability, comfort and continuous data collection.
This creates a need for flexible textile-based technologies that can integrate sensors, electrodes and electronic components directly into garments and other textile products.
To address this need, AITEX developed BIOFLEX, a project focused on smart textiles and printed electronics for the development of wearable solutions in health, wellbeing and sport applications.
BIOFLEX is based on the development of smart garments and textile products that integrate electrodes and sensors to measure different physical and biological parameters, including muscle electrical activity, movement, pressure, temperature and heart rate.
The technology also includes research into screen-printed electrodes for use as electrochemical biosensors, with potential applications in the monitoring of parameters such as sweat or glucose. In parallel, the project improves the integration between electronics and textiles, especially in curved or flexible morphologies.
The solutions are complemented by hybrid electronic systems on textile substrates, flexible and stretchable inks, and AI-based tools and mobile applications designed to analyse the data collected by the textile sensors.

AITEX developed and tested several smart textile prototypes within the BIOFLEX Project.
The project included prototypes for EMG, EDA, ECG and EEG monitoring, as well as developments in printed electronics, textile wiring, flexible biosensors and AI/mobile tools for data analysis.
