Between 2020 and 2021, at Viromii we collaborated with the Research, Innovation and Transfer Promotion and Support Service (I2T) of the Universitat Politècnica de València (UPV) to drive the transfer of an innovative technology: a patented method for the production of double-stranded RNA (dsRNA), developed by the Instituto de Biología Molecular y Celular de Plantas: IBMCP (UPV-CSIC). This method makes it possible to produce large amounts of dsRNA quickly and cost-effectively, with highly relevant applications in biotechnology and crop protection.
Our work included identifying interested companies, organizing bilateral meetings, and providing support throughout the negotiation with key players in the sector. Thanks to all of this, the technology was licensed to a leading biotechnology company in the United States. Today, this innovation is already on its way to transforming dsRNA production for commercial applications.
This case shows how, with a strategic and collaborative approach, it is possible to open the door for promising technologies to reach the international market.
